Travel The World! - vacation Questions

Question: When vacationing in Walt Disney World, which do you prefer - staying on Disney property or off? And why?

( Back )

Answer #1:

I stayed on the property, one because off is just as expensive as on and two because if you don't you have to drive a ridiculous amount to go to Disney.

Answer #2:

I prefer staying on property for a few reasons:

You stay "in the magic."

For some reason I just feel safer in a Disney hotel.

Trustworthy staff.

Extra magic hours.

Bus transportation to parks - which we don't use, but also very easy to drive to parks because you're right there... and you don't have to pay for parking.

People are friendlier and you meet a lot of people you wouldn't normally.

Cleaner than average rooms.

Answer #3:

On property any day - I have done both.

On property: You have extended park hours that are a very nice break from the crowds of the daytime, and if like us you have to go in the heat of the summer - sleep until noon, hit the pool and stay late in the parks.
You have the disney transportation system to carry you from resort to park and back again normally within 20 min. waits at all hours of the day and until the last park closes. No moving your vehicle or paying to park.
You have the choice to use Disney Dining Plans - great options for pre paying meals
and trying so much that Disney has to offer. We have used the reg. plan and quick service, like them both - but don't forget with the reg. plan to make advanced dining reservations several months out. It is worth it for the experiences in their restaurant choices.
You have the Disney Magical Express to pick you up and return you to Orlando Airport if you fly. No traffic fights etc...
You have the choice of many on site properties ranging from economical to the extravagant ( even camping ) - you can fit what ever you are in the mood for. We have stayed moderate and premier.
I tend to feel safe there - above average staff and I once lost $100 in Cash - can you believe someone turned it in. It was in brown soaking wet towels so it was unique to identify. I'm still in awe.
Your entire vacation is a Disney experience - not just when you are in the parks but even coming in at night. You find the atmosphere of Disney 24/7.
You have Disney to help you with reservations, plans etc. when you book thru them.
They are available on line and via phone for your questions, reservations and general help. You also can pay along when you book on the disney site - just so the entire trip is paid for 45 days prior to travel.
On the down side - It makes it really really hard to want to go home!

Answer #4:

Disney for sure.
It just feels more magical! And I feel much safer than at some of the hotels on I-Drive and in Kissimmee.

Answer #5:

I would suggest staying on site at Disney. there are multiple resorts at various price points, so you'll definitely find something within your price range. Beyond that point you have theses advantages:

Being able to use Magic Hours, which are additional park hours, both before and after the stated park hours. Those hours are only for Disney guests.

If flying in to Disney, you can use the Magical Express transportation between the resort and the airport upon arrival and return, both free to Disney guests.

If staying on site, use one of the Disney Dining Plans for your meal expense. It's a preset amount and you can order most everything at the restaurants. That keeps the daily food budget in check. You can also reserve your dining choices 180 before arrival, so you can pick & choose from any of the restaurants, rather than attempting to find something each day on your own.

Staying on site allows you easy access to return to your resort midday, to escape the heat and the crowds and return later at your convenience, with no parking issues or hassles to deal with. All of the resorts offer transportation to the parks via bus, monorail, ferry or boat...and in some cases you have multiple options. From some resorts you can also easily walk to certain parks.

Finally, the main reason, is staying on site creates the environment where you can escape the day to day hassles. No need to drive, deal with traffic, etc. Just enjoy the parks, the dining, the atmosphere and the total convenience and just forget about the real world for a few days. It's definitely worth the few extra dollars it might cost just for that factor alone.

Answer #6:

100% on the Walt Disney World Property.

Just like everybody above has listed there are many great perks you receive when you stay on their property!

Transportation to any park, anytime!
(as well as a bus that picks you up from the airport and takes you to your resort) !
Great Staff !
Extra Magic Hours
Unbelievable Meal Plans
Cleanliness !
The "safety" factor.
and of course,
the magic!

If this is a question where you are trying to decide whether you want to stay in WDW or not, I believe the answer to your question is wquite obvious :)

Answer #7:

For a short trip, on property because of the extra magic hours and because of the convenience and less travel time. For a long trip, off-site at a rental house because of SO much more room, a private pool, and a full-size kitchen so we can eat some meals there (and save a load of money). For a big enough group that I would have to get 2 hotel rooms, it's always cheaper to rent a house instead. It's also quieter and much more private.

It's also nice to kind of feel like you are winding down and getting out of that super-hyper Disney mode and are getting away from the crowds when you rent a house.

Answer #8:

On property. We like to immerse ourselves in the whole Disney experience.
