Answer #1:

scam. throw the check away, cease all contact.

Answer #2:

You should not be worried, just cease all contact. It is absolutely a scam.

Answer #3:

It's a scam. The check is NOT good. Shred it! DO NOT try to cash or deposit it. Everyone receves that email eventually. It's not likely you'll receive that same one again. You don't say why you are worried, but hopefully you knew not to reply, and didn't attempt to deposit that check. If you did, call your bank immediately, or you could be the one in trouble for trying to cash/deposit a fraudulent check.

Answer #4:

Ive seen a lot of these on Y!A
One scam is they mail you this check, which is most likely stolen

Often its drawn on a bank that no longer exists, taken over by another bank, or they change their name.
Then the guy tells you a story about how his plans have changed and needs the money

Answer #5:

Geez, how long is this question? Here's what you do, in any case:
1. Throw the check away. Better yet, shred it or tear it into little pieces.
2. Cease all contact with the scammer.
3. Unless you gave out personal details like your password, your bank account information, credit card info, etc., I wouldn't worry very much.
4. I also would be very cautious in opening email for a while. If you do open one that LOOKS suspicious, put it in spam, immediately.

Did it not clue you in when the ad said he was looking for a personal assistant (NY). Well, 904 is the area code for Jacksonville, St Augustine, Starke, Green Cove Springs and Northeastern Florida, Florida, NOT New York.

I believe I would forward this one to spam@uce.gov, the government department set up to investigate stuff like this. If you can, cursor or scroll to the bottom of the message, if it's Yahoo email, and on the right click on Full Headers. THEN forward it. If it's NOT Yahoo email, then check your help tab for how to get full headers.

Good luck.

Answer #6:

If you received an actual check in the mail, keep the original envelope and contact your local Secret Service office who investigate bank fraud Click Here and ask for advice. They may ask you to mail everything to them or just shred it

Ceasing contact means not to answer or even open any future emails from this person. They may send you a virus or malware that will start sending out emails to everyone in your address book pretending to be you and asking them to send money to help you. And do not open any emails from anyone you don't know. If you get other things in the mail, either refuse delivery or contact the Secret Service again.

If they don't have your bank account number or social security, you should be fine. They will keep trying to contact you, even sending emails pretending to be from the FBI or a lawyer - don't believe them.

Answer #7:

This guy tried to get me too!!! I responded to a job posting on craig's list for a data entry/administrative clerk position. I was then sent an email telling me to create a yahoo! messenger account since thats how my "interview" was going to be conducted. So fine I did it. I'm online at 11pm at night and Mr. Richardson Torres asks me if I want to do the interview right then, fine again. So basically I was going to be paid $20 an hr to do some on line from home accounting work for his company Magnitude Computers Inc. I asked for the companys website and this was the response I got...

Richardson Torres: The company's website for the Home Business Unit is under a URL change and it involves a very high re-organizational process that involves bringing all our online staffs to log-on on the same Network Online with their staff ID. That way as soon as the website is launched within the next 10 business days then each online staffs can have a log on ID/Password to get access to their duties online while still communicating with their supervisors. That way everyone can be logged into the companies data base. You would be working under supervisors that are connected to our Regional Data Station-Centers Online........BS, I know.

do you offer direct deposit? Here is my answer...

Richardson Torres: Yes we do but right now the company pays via checks because our account department is undergoing their monthly balancing of bank accounts
Richardson Torres: So you will be paid via checks which will be mailed ut to you via post mail (UPS) courier service

no taxes are taken out of the checks, and BTW it took him extra long to answer this question so he must have been searching for it online, the company does Pay As You Earn tax deductions. Basically I was skeptical from the beginning so I did a search for the contact number for my employment supervisor (904) 637-4794 and thank God I found this post! So I call him out on it and this is his response,

Richardson Torres: Jesus Christ,,, this person is trying to use my cell phone number for illegal businesses
Richardson Torres: And i don't even know who is Antonio Donovan

So for this person to be an employment supervisor he has horrible grammar and this is not the worst of it. Kinda reminds me of all the Nigerian lottery emails I get...hmmm?? And BTW public records show this number as a land line and NOT a cell phone...

So, I basically call it off, I tell him I'm not comfortable with any of it, I'm not able to verify anything about the company so thanks but no thanks, 1 minute later and he signs off of messenger...surprise, surprise.

So sorry to you Michelle but it seems that you have been scammed and definitely DO NOT cash that check and YES take whatever measures you have to take to report this person to the proper authorities.
