Question: Parents, how much house cleaning do you do if someone is coming to look @ your home?

Answer #1:
It's against the law for them to have people look at your apartment while you're still living there especially since you don't plan on moving. Tell them to show a different apartment and if they refuse then have your apartment trashed. It's despicable that they expect you a paying tenant to take time out of your day to let people invade your private space and then have to make it clean and inviting.Answer #2:
I think it would be very respectable to at least tidy up a bit. Yes, it is your home...but it would be nice for your landlord if you cleaned it up a bit for the people coming to see it. I'm not saying it has to be spotless, but a little tidying up couldn't hurt ;)Answer #3:
I would sort in piles semi-neatly and tidy up the rest of the house and just explain the situation. If I were in someones home and they explained a big mess away like that, I would completely understand.Answer #4:
you should leave it trashed. even though i couldn't. i clean for the plumber. it's a disease.which is just as well in my case, because i don't do a tremendous amount of cleaning when nobody's coming over. so thank goodness i get visitors fairly regularly.
Answer #5:
Did you landlord tell you, or ask you?You don't have to let them see inside your house. I'd be telling the landlard where to go if he asked me that.
Answer #6:
You would be within your rights to refuse to let these people in. By law, even if you are the owner of a place, you need the tenants permission to walk in.If you don't mind them walking in, you can just apologise for the mess and tell these people you're in the middle of sorting out your daughter's things. They'll understand. It's no big deal.
Answer #7:
If you don't mind them coming too much - then just tidy a bit and then explain what you're doing. I'd have the kitchen and bathroom clean, but otherwise I'd keep sorting through like you were while you wait for them to show up.Perhaps call up your landlord and tell him/her what you're doing and that your place isn't 100% clean - and perhaps he/she will want to select a different apartment, or at least be aware of the condition before they visit.
You're not a bad parent for sorting through and getting rid of things - anyone should be able to understand that! (And even IF they have an issue, well too bad for them, it's your home and you know it's not like that all the time.) I'm sure your landlords know how you normally keep the place and wouldn't be concerned. You're being asked on short notice, so it's not like they expect the place to be PERFECT, as you are doing them a favor by allowing them in.
Answer #8:
I would just try to straighten everything up. Not everything needs to be in the perfect spot but if its to messy (even if its just cleaning out old junk) it may turn them off and maybe even your landlord. put all the clothes your going through in a neat pile on the floor or on the bed. I would try to find a box or something for the toys your going through just so their confined. Make sure everything else is decent (dirty dishes in the sink, nothing really on the floor, and maybe even a quick once over with the vacuum/mop). It really shouldn't take to long to do everything maybe an hour and a half.Answer #9:
I'm a clean freak. My house has to be clean/organized daily. It's my grandmothers fault. She passed it on to me. When people are coming over I'm even worse. I gave my couches a steam cleaning and threw the covers in the wash because I had a contractor coming over to re-design my basement. He came nowhere near my couches but I had to because it bothered me. Strange thing is that other peoples messy houses do not bother me at all.If you don't have time just organize the chaos as '*T' mentioned. Just give them an explination and I'm sure they wouldn't care. I know it wouldn't bother me.
